Common Questions

What is your psychotherapy approach?

I work to help individuals and couples address the symptoms leading them to seek psychotherapy. I offer a psychodynamic approach to grasping the triggers and sources of these difficulties. Very often, coping strategies are no longer working effectively for those at a point of seeking psychotherapeutic help. My patients discover the use and limits of their coping strategies as well as conscious and unconscious internal beliefs that are shaping their experience and need updating and revision.

I offer a comprehensive understanding of development and how the mind works in helping my patients. I am versatile in engaging with a wide range of problems. I aim to bring a combination of pragmatism, responsiveness, reliability and psychological expertise to my work as a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst. I also have a longstanding interest in the relationship between mindfulness and psychological awareness.

In my experience, effective exploratory psychotherapy and psychoanalysis help individuals and couples gain an enhanced capacity for self-reliance because of their expanded self-awareness, emotional resources and insights. In addition, I find that through effective psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, individuals develop their capacities to relate to others -- partners, friends, parents and children.

Should we come in as a couple or seek individual therapy if our marriage or relationship is in trouble?

If your relationship is your primary concern, I usually recommend starting with couples therapy sessions. That said, I find that couples who have benefited from some individual psychotherapy often make very good use of their couples psychotherapy sessions.

What are your fees for psychotherapy?

My session fees are based on the type of service and length of session. I will discuss my fees and billing related policies with you at a point of first contact.

Do you participate in any insurance panels?

I do not participate in any insurance panels. My patients often use their medical insurance to obtain some reimbursement for psychotherapy session fees using an out of network proviso. Your insurance company can tell you in advance what they will allow as a usual and customary fee for a licensed clinical psychologist in my location for psychotherapy and the percentage that your company reimburses of this fee. If you are concerned that financial constraints limit your ability to get help in a private practice setting, there are several excellent area clinics which offer reduced fee psychotherapy with licensed mental health professionals seeking advanced post graduate training that I can recommend to you.
